Box Score

Glendale, AZ - NFL journeyman Drew Stanton had one 300 yard passing game in his 39 games as a pro. Most of his career was spent with a clip board in one hand and the sharpie in another.

Starting quarterback Carson Palmer suffered a torn labrum in the season opener at San Francisco. So, with Drew Stanton as the listed week 2 starter, it was safe to assume that Arizona’s offense with drastically suffer. As major underdogs against Washington, Drew Stanton made a statement with his performance in week 2. The long-time Cardinals backup threw 25 of 35 completions for 303 yards and 3 touchdowns. In a game that featured 657 yards and 35 first downs, the Cardinals needed every play made by Stanton to hold off the 1980’s Redskins.

Arizona takes a 27-14 lead after a Chandler Catanzaro field goal with 4:58 remaining in the 4th quarter. But Washington goes the distance on a three minute long drive capped by running back Joe Washington. That touchdown from Joe Washington trimmed the Arizona lead to six. Then, Drew Stanton ate the remainder of the clock with impressive passes then a timely handoff to David Johnson to convert the game’s final 3rd down play.

The 2010’s Cardinals were expected to finish the season in last place out of the NFC West. After 2 weeks, very few could argue that this team isn’t the division’s best. In week 2, Seattle dismantled New England and San Francisco shut down the New York Jets. However, none of them won a game with their backup quarterback, unlike the Cardinals.
