DSFL 6 Week 15 Recap
1980’s 49ers are now in a must-win situation over their final 2 games.
San Francisco is now 8-6 overall and just 5-5 against the conference.
Lets take a look at the two marquee games from week 15:
1990’s Cowboys CB Kevin Smith (#26) knocks away the pass to John Taylor on the final play of the game.
90’s Cowboys 26, 80’s 49ers 21
Arlington, TX - San Francisco is running out of time. Joe Montana threw another 3 interceptions and WR John Taylor dropped the game-winning touchdown pass on the final play against Dallas. This team has big play potential. But that’s just it, potential is the key word. As the 17th ranked offense, the dynasty that was supposed to shred opponents with Joe Montana and Jerry Rice is just not cutting it.
Against the 1990’s Cowboys, San Francisco struggled to move the ball much. 4-of-10 on 3rd downs with 3 turnovers. However, Montana did find Jerry Rice for a 54 yard touchdown strike with 1:19 remaining in regulation, cutting their deficit to 5 points. However, the 49ers missed their two chances to score inside the Cowboys 2 yard line. On 1st & Goal, the 49ers quarterback overthrew an open Jerry Rice for the game-winner. Then, John Taylor dropped a pass (to his credit, Kevin Smith contested the catch as seen in the picture above) that would have won the game too.
San Francisco’s final two opponents are against the NFC West: Week 16 @ (4-10) Arizona, Week 17 vs (9-5) Seattle. The 1980’s 49ers probably won’t make the playoffs unless they win both of those games.
Julian Edelman (#11) is tackled just short of the end zone on the final play of the game.
70’s Dolphins 21, 10’s Patriots 13
Miami, FL - Congratulations to the 1970’s Miami Dolphins for clinching the playoffs with their win against New England. This changes everything, as now the 2010’s Patriots have fallen out of the division lead and are running out of playoff breathing room.
Yes, in this thrilling game, Julian Edelman was just 2 yards away from a tie, this team needs more than a big play from Edelman to turn this thing around. The 2010’s Patriots entered week 14’s DSFL Radio game with a chance to lock up a playoff spot. But after back-to-back losses, this team now needs a win against Buffalo and some AFC help to clinch the playoffs.
The #1 seed is still in play, but this team needs to win some games, first. The Patriots have been held to 34 rushing yards/game over the last 2 weeks. Following their 5-game winning streak, New England is also just 9-for-23 on 3rd downs. The offense was inefficient against St. Louis and had similar struggles on Sunday against a top 10 defense in the 1970’s Dolphins.
Other Wk 15 Notables:
George Blanda of the 1960’s Oilers tossed a franchise-record 4 touchdowns on 360 yards passing in their blowout win against Indianapolis.
Teams who have clinched the playoffs:
AFC: PIT (10-4), IND (9-5), MIA (9-5)
NFC: STL (9-5), NO (9-5), DAL (9-5)
