DSFL 6 Week 13 Recap
2010’s Ravens shock the DSFL world with a primetime upset of the 90’s Cowboys.
Baltimore sets a franchise-record for offense in the Thursday night victory over Dallas.
Here’s a recap at two of the best games from week 13 action:
Baltimore overcomes a 14-point deficit in their home win against Dallas. Dennis Pitta (#88) reels in the go-ahead touchdown with under 4 minutes left.
10’s Ravens 31, 90’s Cowboys 24
Baltimore, MD - The 2010’s Ravens have pulled off upsets before. Baltimore began the season with a narrow win against the 1940’s Browns, the team currently placed as a 7-seed in the AFC playoff chase. The Ravens also beat Philadelphia on the road in a 27-21 thriller. But with the season at stake, Baltimore gains a franchise-record 389 yards in the week 13 win against the 1990’s Cowboys.
It was an amazing game.
The two teams combined for just under 800 yards of offense. Ray Rice ran wild with 123 yards while Cowboys WR Alvin Harper gained 156 yards in the receiving game. Most of his production was after the injury to Michael Irvin. While Michael Irvin (a.k.a. “The Playmaker”) won’t miss next week’s game at Cincinnati, he was dearly missed in the 4th quarter against Baltimore.
Joe Flacco wills the team back from 14 points down with a late touchdown pass to Dennis Pitta, as pictured above. After another 3 points from Justin Tucker, the defense needed one stop to win the game. This defense couldn’t even slow down Dallas for a majority of the game. But Ray Lewis and co. closed the lid on the deep game and forced Troy Aikman to check downs.
The Cowboys were driving but ran out of time in an effort to score a game-tying touchdown. It was a gutsy way to win it for the 2010’s Ravens. Joe Flacco matched Hall of Fame QB Troy Aikman point-for-point in a thrilling victory.
Baltimore (5-7) has an incredibly narrow path to the DSFL 6 playoffs. With the AFC North all but locked up, the 2010’s Ravens can potentially make the playoffs if they win their remaining 4 games and receive major help from other AFC teams.
As for Dallas (8-4), this team could have enjoyed a massive 2 game lead on Philadelphia for the NFC East. But after the Eagles’ week 13 win, Philadelphia (7-5) can realistically win this division. In week 16, the two teams will meet in Arlington, TX.
The 1960’s Packers fall behind 21-0 in the 2nd quarter at home. Bart Starr (#15) helps mount an enormous comeback, but the Eagles win the game in the final seconds.
40’s Eagles 27, 60’s Packers 24
Green Bay, WI - Speaking of those Eagles, Steve Van Buren helped the team stay alive in the NFC East with a road win over the 1960’s Packers.
It certainly looked inevitable when Chuck Bednarik returns a fumble for a 25 yard touchdown return on the opening snap of the second quarter. Green Bay’s fans booed the offense off the field as the team fell behind, 21-0. The Packers showed some resolve in the closing minutes of the period. However, it wasn’t until Elijah Pitts brought back the opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter for a 97 yard touchdown that swung the momentum of this game.
Don Chandler drilled a 33-yard field goal and Bart Starr found Carrol Dale for the game-tying touchdown with 27 seconds remaining in regulation. It was a furious comeback to force overtime.
That was on the minds of everyone, including the Eagles offense. Philadelphia elected to run the ball to drain the remaining seconds of the 4th quarter. But Steve Van Buren breaks off a long run which would immediately put the team in field goal range. It was a massive mistake from the Packers to fall asleep on defense. Philadelphia took advantage and won the game with a 49-yard field goal by Cliff Patton.
Philadelphia (7-5) will host the division-leading 2010’s Saints next week.
Meanwhile, the 1960’s Packers (6-6) are in a must-win situation for week 14 when they visit the NFC North leading 1950’s Lions. If Green Bay loses that game, their season is over.
Other Wk 13 Notables:
The 1940’s Browns (7-5) demolish the 1990’s Titans, led by Tommy James. With 3 Interceptions and 2 return touchdowns, the Cleveland cornerback took over the game.
The 1990’s 49ers (8-4) crush the Bills in a game that could have saved San Francisco’s playoff hopes.
