DSFL 6 Week 11 Recap

The 1990’s Cowboys force 5 turnovers in just the second half of their road win in week 11. That was just one of several incredible comeback wins during week 11 in the DSFL.

Somehow, both of the games listed below featured a more thrilling finish than the Dallas-Minnesota game.

Here’s a recap at two of the best games from week 11 action:

Bob Sanders (#21) returns a crucial 4th-quarter interception for the touchdown that sparks the team’s 11-point comeback.

00’s Colts 18, 60’s Packers 14

Box Score

Indianapolis, IN - The 1960’s Packers have found their footing in the DSFL 6. That phrase seems a bit surprising, especially since this dynasty won four world championships and were led by Vince Lombardi (arguably the greatest coach in NFL history). The Packers flew to Indianapolis fresh off a 24-6 beatdown of the hapless 1990’s Jaguars. That win was their 3rd in a row.

Going into the fourth quarter in Indy, the Packers looked like their winning tear would continue as they led the Colts 14-3 and had Peyton Manning pinned deep. For some reason, Indianapolis attempts a 4th & 31 from their own 7 yard-line with 6 minutes left in the game. That attempt failed miserably. Or did it? Green Bay got the ball back at the Colts’ 7 yard line with a 14-3 lead. The Packers must have felt too comfortable at that point because Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr throws a pick-6 to Bob Sanders and the Colts convert the 2-point try. After a Packers punt, Indianapolis gets the ball back down by 3.

The sputtering Colts offense had new life and used most of the remaining clock to score the game-winning touchdown. Had the Packers taken 3 quarterback kneels after that 4th & 31 stop, Green Bay would have led the game by 14 points with just over 3 minutes left. Basically, the game would have been over. These are the types of losses that can spark a tailspin. If the playoffs started today, Green Bay would be the 8 seed and miss the NFC postseason. A tailspin means their season is over.

10’s Chiefs 25, 70’s Raiders 24

Box Score

Las Vegas, NV - Patrick Mahomes is magic. In his first 3 full seasons as an NFL starter, the Chiefs superstar has 6 game-winning drives. In the DSFL 6, he just completed his 3rd already. That was in spite of a dismal defensive performance and a running game that was even worse.

His starting tailback finished the day with 13 yards rushing.

Here comes Mahomes with his cape. Down by 5 with under two minutes, Tyreek Hill quickly gets by the defense which begins a quick aerial assault of the Raiders defense (which is, by no means, much good at all) and the Mahomes wins the game with 7 seconds left.

Now, Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been perfect this season. He is just 4 yards shy of the league-lead in passing (held by Drew Brees at 2793 yards). That is pretty good! But he has thrown 11 interceptions which is one behind the DSFL 6 lead of Mark Brunell’s 12 interceptions. That is pretty horrific! With all of that said, his Chiefs are tied with the 90’s Broncos and 70’s Raiders at 5-5 this season. Without any doubt, this division can be won by Patrick Mahomes if he keeps playing like this.
