DSFL 7: Week 1 Recap

32 teams begin their journey for title of the NFL’s all-time greatest team

The “comeback” was a common theme of opening week.

5 winning teams overcame a 4th quarter deficit, including two who trailed by double-digits.

Let’s check out the three best games from week 1.

Bradshaw wins opener with decisive 4th quarter drive

Pittsburgh, PA - As a massive home favorite, the 1978 Steelers were wilting under the pressure
against Tennessee. Pittsburgh limped into the 4th quarter with a lowly 137 yards of offense and a
12-7 deficit. After a Titans punt, the Steelers turned it all around with the go-ahead 5 play, 58 yard
touchdown drive on offense and a 4 & out forced by the defense.

A comeback of the ages

Cincinnati, OH - The 1988 Bengals had no business winning this game. In fact, those in attendance
felt the same way as many fans left the stadium prior to Eddie Brown’s critical 99 yard touchdown
catch. That was the first of 3 unanswered touchdowns that turned an 18 point deficit into a 3 point
lead, and the eventual victory. We may never see a comeback quite like that again.

In NFC East brawl, Bobby Johnson delivers knock out punch

East Rutherford, NJ - Both the 1986 Giants and the 1991 Redskins have defenses good enough to win
the Greatest Teams championship. So, it wasn’t to much surprise that neither team scored in the
1st half. While both offenses played better in the 2nd half, the Giants’ Bobby Johnson made the play
of the day with a 67 yard touchdown with 4 seconds remaining, shocking the Redskins, 21-14.
